DINOSAUR FEATHERSDinosaur Feathers influences include: The Soft Boys, The Olivia Tremor Control, XTC and of course Paul McCartney's Wings. The band imbues a jazzier/punkier/maybe even poppier melange.
With Whistle Tips (album), the Brooklyn-based quartet flee from the tropics of their debut, 2010's Fantasy Memorial, and push themselves into hitherto unexplored/ultimately rewarding new territories. Once tethered to a drum machine, the addition of live drums provides newfound forcefulness and flexibility; where acoustic guitars once engendered laid-back vibes and folky misnomers, electric tones crunch with occasionally noisy outbursts. JONAS SEES IN COLORJonas Sees in Color is a Greensboro-based rock band. Recent media accolades include:
“They've restored my recently shaken faith in emerging bands to do something original.” - Absolute Punk “An indie rock band in the truest sense of the word showcasing a versatile and delicious knack for infectious melodies and poignant lyricism.” - BMI “A sense of realness and authenticity...what makes great songs so universal.” - AOL AMA DIVERSAma Divers debuts as a new experimental ambient project by Renee Mendoza and Brian Haran of the Durham-based group, Filthy Bird.
COLOURSLIDEColourslide's Everybody's Right About Everybody (album)debuted in the spring of 2011. Gregory Robson at Absolute Punk had this to say about the record:
"These days, finding a disc without filler is nearly impossible and yet in just four years Colourslide have now penned two albums with very, if any flaws. Markedly more confident, precise, and daring than the band's self-titled debut, Everybody's Right About Everybody is a richly textured, wholly engrossing work of staggering power. There’s tons of cinematic Britpop guitars, bombastic drumming and a large sonic wall of sound that brings to mind Elbow’s Cast of Thousands and Coldplay’s A Rush of Blood to the Head. In the end, what separates bands from their contemporaries is their ability to possess magnetism, cohesion and confidence." |
SHARK?Shark? Their I’m an animal (album) sounds like some undiscovered 1976 band from New York. It’s lo-fi and intimate yet still has total dynamics. The sound? A mix of Modern Lovers, Pavement and the Strokes.
HOUSE OF FOOLSHouse of Fools crafts an earnest and intrepid rock and roll sound. Electric guitars duel and poignant keys branch from the roots of a sturdy and syncopated rhythm section. Colorful melodies and four-part harmonies provide the flora for this tree of Rock Revival. Versus the beast (album) sets into motion a fresh start for this North Carolina sextet.
LILAC SHADOWSLilac Shadows has crafted an airy, exquisite EP titled ‘Shallow Madness’ The 8 track EP alternates between instrumental and vocal tracks. The standout sound of ‘A Shallow Madness’ will have you hypnotized, while ‘What Dreams’ sounds as if you’re hearing a shadowy story. Each song carries it’s own lustrous weight, stirring up those gleaming emotions we have buried somewhere inside.
